Increased patient counts and wait times. Decreased staffing and patience. It’s likely every one of us in the veterinary industry has dealt with compounding stressors over the last year. In this lecture presented by Human Resources Manager Cheryl Latta, we will discuss the inherent difficulties of putting our own needs first, in an industry that requires us to be the caregivers of others. We will explore ways to address difficult obstacles, and how to recognize our own needs to better care for ourselves.

This talk is specifically RACE-approved for 1 DVM or Technician CE credit.

Self care isn't the answer to problem of staff being unhappy. Being underpaid while being overworked is the main cause so that is what needs to be addressed. You're basically saying "take care of yourself mentally by doing these various things so you can continue to be underpaid and overworked."

Greg,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. In this particular lecture, Cheryl is mostly focused on self-care during the stress of COVID-19. Her particular suggestions about sticking to routines, utilizing video chats, reading a new book, are focused on activities that could support to someone during this specific overwhelming time. I understand that it might not have addressed the issues you were looking for.

Cheryl does have another lecture specifically about competitive wages that can be found here: https://www.atdove.org/video/recruiting-in-a-world-of-rising-minimum-wages. We also have other management videos about how DoveLewis is managing wage decompression that can be found here: https://www.atdove.org/video/is-your-hospital-ready-for-higher-wages.

If you have any other feedback or questions, feel free to reach out to me directly at rmedo@dovelewis.org.
